_Reformism
http://www.myspace.com/crunctesla
)))to hip-hop groups (or any band) who ask me how i feel about there music((((
Personally, I agree with Q-tip...."hip hop as we once knew it is Dead, there's something new going on here..."
i feel that those who embellish hip hops classic era have turned hip hop into classical music...ie archaic ...but I do think archives are very important. But I feel that the underground has too many heads and has become too bogged down with the teenage Male Ego. in the earliest days of hip hop...the crowds had woman and men who both wanted to party and some who wanted to be elevated.....I think elevation doesn't have to be literal.....it can be found in the music. Thats why i feel there are greener pastures for us and the underground is a steadily sinking ship. i think that for hip-hop to survive (as with any force or being) it has to be reborn. and for that to take place, the children of hip hop must step outside the box and plant knew seeds....the jazz saxophonist/ composer Anthony Braxton once said that Music or any artform can be broken down into three major types....reformism, stylism, classicism.......in the begining, the reformists create a new genre....in hip hops case....bambataa, herc, marly marl ...etc.....most of the reformists don't capitalize off of there creation but some do. there style is so revolutonary and abstract to the public that most of them disappear into obsurity. ....that's were the stylists come in .......they are able to make newer and more popular styles that are built atop the reformists creations. .then the classicists come in later and repeat the past forever....like ballet....or hip-hops 5 elements......i feel there are alot more elements missing right now. both under and above ground
so as for your music friend, im feeling your spirit and heart but not your music. The reason being, I feel that we all start our musical paths as classicists and must work to find our own style and hopefully, one day, Create reform.
peace and happiness
Rae
